History

Senior citizen programs first began for Mt. Morris area older adults in 1980 by the Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools.  Two years later the success of the programs facilitated an agreement with Mt. Morris Township to include services to the Westwood Heights and Beecher School Districts and introduce senior programs to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  The Mt. Morris Senior Citizens thus became known as the Heart of Senior Citizen Services.

In 1987 a senior center was built by Mt. Morris Township within the township’s government complex.  The center became known as the Donald J. Krapohl Activity Center after the Township Supervisor whose vision saw that the center would be built and funded.

The Heart of Senior Citizen Services a few years later obtained Federal 501(c)3 nonprofit status allowing it the freedom to expand, seek additional funding and begin governing itself.

The strength, stability, and self-sufficiency of the senior programs operated by the Heart of Senior Citizen Services has made the Krapohl Center one of the most active and innovative senior centers in Genesee County if not the State of Michigan.
