Dear Friend,

How can you make a difference? Everyone likes to believe that they can in some small way positively influence the life of at least one person. Now you can ... by giving a charitable gift to the Heart of Senior Citizen Services - Krapohl Center. Your charitable gift will go a long way to providing life services and quality programs for the many older adults living in your neighborhood.

You may have already benefited from the many programs, services, or events sponsored by the HSCS - Krapohl Center, if not you may know of a family member, friend or neighbor who has.

By giving a charitable gift to the HSCS - Krapohl Center you are insuring that older adults in your neighborhood. . .

    feel less lonely and isolated
    have reliable transportation
receive a hot nutrition meal daily
    obtain information pertinent to them
enjoy participating in a wide array of activities
continue to give back to their community.

By giving a charitable gift to the HSCS - Krapohl Center you can take advantage of another great opportunity. In September, President Bush signed into law an incredible opportunity for those who make large gifts to charitable organizations like the HSCS. Under the old law, the tax deduction for a charitable gift was limited to 50% of adjusted gross income. The Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005 raised the limit to 100% of adjusted gross income. This opportunity for larger gifts to be fully deductible, but it only lasts until December 31, 2005.

The higher the limit also makes it attractive to make gifts from retirement accounts like IRAs and 401(K)s. A donor over 59½ may withdraw from a retirement account with no penalty , and then deduct the full amount of the gift to charity.

The 100% deduction ceiling also provides an opportunity for stock holders. Instead of transferring stock to a charity in order to avoid capital gains tax, the donor can sell the stock and make a cash gift. Depending on the taxpayer’s situation, this may result in greater tax savings.

The information provided above is for illustration only and is not intended as tax advice. Always consult your financial advisor before making significant financial decisions.

Don’t let this great opportunity to support the HSCS pass you by. Thank you so much for taking the time and caring about quality programs and services all older adults deserve. Your charitable gift, no matter the amount, will make a difference.

Regards,

Gayle I. Reed
