The Greenhouse Project

The HSCS - Krapohl Center for the past three years has had what is called the “Greenhouse Project”.  Senior citizens from around the county begin in March to plant flowers and vegetables from seed.  By the end of May the flowers and vegetables are ready for use in various ways.  The flowers are used to decorate around the Krapohl Center, to decorate various roadway intersections such as at Clio and Coldwater Road, and are for sale to the community as a fund-raising activity for the Krapohl Center.  In addition, left over flowers and vegetables are given to the Urban Gardeners for their use.

The “Greenhouse Project” came about though the generosity of a senior who loaned us the use of his greenhouse in 2002.  However, as the program grew the Greenhouse volunteers have requested that we build our own greenhouse on the Center’s grounds.  So in 2005 that is exactly what is happening.
